When planning a trip to the Italian Lakes, most people immediately think of Lake Como. But after spending time at Lake Maggiore, with its tranquil charm, picturesque alleyways, and blooming flowers, I completely fell in love. 🥹✨

Visiting in June meant experiencing the lake at its absolute peak, surrounded by vibrant hydrangeas in full bloom. Here is my complete guide to the beauty of Lake Maggiore!

🌸 1. June Hydrangeas (Hydrangea Bloom Season)

In June, Lake Maggiore turns into a pastel wonderland. Everywhere you walk—along the promenade, past grand historic villas, and through village streets—you’ll find lush hydrangeas bursting with color.

Much like Bellagio or Varenna on Lake Como, the lakeside towns around Lake Maggiore (such as Stresa, Baveno, and Arona) feature charming cobblestone streets lined with local boutiques.

  • Wandering the Lanes: Stroll through narrow passageways filled with leather craft shops, artisan souvenir stores, gelaterias, and cozy cafés.

  • A Relaxed Atmosphere: Unlike the heavy tourist traffic around Como, Lake Maggiore feels peaceful. You can easily sit at a sidewalk café and enjoy an espresso or an Aperol Spritz without feeling rushed. 🍷☕
